The second preview show begins with a French maid uniform-clad brunette still busy cleaning the TV set. She realises the show has started and stands up to face the camera.

“Oops, I’m still trying to clean up the set from the previous show, and I almost forgot we have got a second preview show of the upcoming England v France match in the Rugby World Cup.”

Carla: “In our first preview show, we asked viewers which sports news reporter they would like to see represent England. Let’s bring out the 7 ladies who were being voted for. Reshmin Chowdhury, Jules Breach, Laura Woods, Alex Scott.”

Carla: “….and Vicky Gomersall, Kelly Cates, Natalie Sawyer…”

All 7 ladies appear understandably nervous as Carla is handed an envelope. She swiftly opens it and quickly reads the card inside.

Carla: “In total there have been 77 votes. Coming 7th with a miserly 1 vote is Vicky.”

The blonde presenter fist pumps the air with relief.

Carla: “Sharing 5th position with 5% of the vote each is Jules and Reshmin. Coming 4th is Alex with 13 votes.”

Carla: “There was a tie for 2nd place, and with 19% of the vote it is Laura and Natalie, which means our poll winner is none other than Kelly who attracted 32% of the vote.”

The 44 year old blonde put her head in her hands as the audience applauded at her forthcoming participation.

Carla: “Congratulations Kelly, and you will be competing against the French representative, Lea Seydoux.”

Kelly: “Oh god! I hope England win. They should do I think, as in my opinion they are the better team.”

Behind where the ladies are standing, a wall partition starts to move and reveals a large perspex walled gunge tank. There are gasps from the 7 ladies as they wonder what is going to happen next.

Carla: “We can’t really have another preview show without anyone getting messy, so we have decided that all the losers of the vote can step into our specially commissioned gunge tank which can fit 6 people in.”

Reshmin, Alex, Laura, Natalie, Vicky and Jules reluctantly walk the short distance to the tank and go inside. The door is locked and the 6 ladies fearfully look up above them. Carla is at the side of the tank and has her hand on the lever.

Carla: “Enjoy ladies!”

The lever is pulled and gallons of thick green gunge fall from the overhead compartment and deluge the ladies in the tank. Squeals and shouts were aplenty as the sports reporters received their gungings. Their pretty dresses turned a gungey green colour and their pristine hairstyles were ruined as clammy gunge matted their hair. After 10 seconds the gloopy downpour ended and the door of the tank is opened to release the 6 gunged ladies. The audience clap wholeheartedly as one by one, the ladies step out of the tank to show how gunged they are.

Carla giggles to herself as she looks at the state of the sports reporters.

At that point, a stagehand walks on and Carla is given another envelope which she duly opens. “Oh dear, I have just received news that due to Typhoon Hagibis, a number of rugby World Cup matches have been cancelled. Unfortunately this includes the England v France match.”

The brunette raises her hands in despair as she looks in the direction of the producer who is off stage. The show goes immediately into an advert break and resumes a couple of minutes later.

Carla: “Not to worry folks, we have found a way that we can still have an England v France match, albeit it won’t be rugby based. On Friday evening both countries have football matches in the European Championship Qualifiers:-

  • Czech Republic v England
  • Iceland v France

The match will be decided by the number of goals that both England and France score. For example if England beat the Czech Republic 3-1 and France draw with Iceland 2-2, then the result of the match will be England 3 France 2”

Carla: “Almost forgot, but we will have to make some changes to Carla’s Predictions. This is where viewers predict the time of the first goal in the Czech Republic v England match and nominate a lady to appear on the results show. The viewer who is nearest to the actual minute of the first goal scored get to see their nominated lady on the show.”

Carla: “Unfortunately we have had to scrub previous predictions due to the change of sport from rugby to football. Viewers are able to make predictions, right up until when the contest closes on Friday evening at 19:45 (BST) which is the start time of the matches. By the way, I notice that I was one of the ladies nominated in the previous show, so if I can ask for that not to happen again please, as I have no intention of getting messy! Thank you and good luck!”
